Hustler Fastrak Mower Wiring Relay Continuity to Coil Switch

Start Relay Question

Start Relay Question

I have a Hustler Fastrak mower with a Honda 20HP motor and starting
problems - clicks only upon key turn. I can start the mower by jumping
the battery and ignition terminals on the starter solenoid. So
solenoid and starter seem to be OK.

Upon troubleshooting, I find that the wire running from the start relay
to the starter solenoid (red) goes from 0V to 12V upon key turn, but
only when disconnected from the solenoid. Upon connecting, I get no
appreciable voltage reading at either end on key turn - thus no start.
Puzzling to me. Would this likely point to a bad relay? The start
relay does not seem to click as hard as the kill relay for whatever it
is worth. And all safety switches are temporarily bypassed.

My experience with ride on equipment is limited and really don't recall any I worked on having a relay. For me, your description of jumping the solenoid is how I tested for a bad solenoid. Jumping the heavy cable in and out of the solenoid starting the engine but normal key operation just clicking the solenoid points to needing a new solenoid.

How old is it? Have you spoken with you dealer? if i am not mistaken it has a 3 year warranty on the engine itself.Though from my experience, it sounds like bad gas has gummed up some
things. I had a mower with the same issue and I  took the float bowl
apart and the carb apart and cleaned it several times. It now runs just
        fine.

If its gummed up why can he jump start the engine and it will run?????
First model numbers would help, maybe we could find a wiring diaphragm.
How old is the battery?  If over a few months old take it to a parts store like auto
zone and have them do a load test on it. Its will help if you can charge it up before you go.

Yeah its been hot but for the most part at or a little below normal. We have had many more days of the monsoon flow from the south however so it has been more humid this summer which although not quite at at your Georgian level pretty oppresive for us.

As far as the economy, we have been hit harder then most of the country, 2 to4 percent higher unemployment. I guess at $3.49/gal of gas we are better then most of the country but gas was a quarter/gal when I started driving so its still hard to accept.
